Introducing Tab Widgets
New Tab Widgets has a shorter name. The product, dashboard, accounts, Pro features, and extension experience are staying the same.
Today we are simplifying the product name from New Tab Widgets to Tab Widgets.
It is a small change on the surface, but it better matches what the product has become. Tab Widgets is still the customizable dashboard you can open from a new tab, fill with useful widgets, and shape around the way you browse, work, study, and unwind.
The shorter name is easier to say, easier to remember, and gives the product room to grow beyond one very specific phrase.
What is changing
The main change is the name: Tab Widgets.
You will start seeing the new name across the website, extension, onboarding, support links, and product copy. The website will continue to live at tabwidgets.com, and existing product links will keep pointing you to the right place.
The goal is simple: make the brand cleaner without making the product feel unfamiliar.
What is not changing
Your dashboard is not being reset or redesigned because of the rebrand.
Your existing setup stays in place, including:
- Your widgets
- Your pages
- Your layout
- Your wallpapers and appearance settings
- Your account
- Your Pro subscription or lifetime purchase
- Your synced data, where sync is enabled
The Chrome extension experience stays the same too. You can still open a new tab and see the dashboard you built.
Why the name is changing
When the project started, the existing New Tab Widgets was a very literal name. It explained the idea quickly: widgets for your browser's new tab page.
That is still true, but the product has grown into something broader. People use it as a personal command center, a lightweight workspace, a set of quick launchers, a notes board, a media controller, a home dashboard, and sometimes just a calmer place to land between tasks.
Tab Widgets keeps the useful part of the name while making it feel less boxed in.
It still says what the product is about: widgets, tabs, and a browser workspace you control.
Why now
The product has been steadily expanding: more widgets, more integrations, better customization, Pro sync, and a web app version for opening your dashboard outside the extension.
That made this the right time to tidy up the name before the next stretch of work.
A rebrand can easily become an excuse to change everything at once. This one is deliberately quieter. The product is not changing direction. The name is catching up with the direction it is already moving in.
For existing users
You do not need to do anything.
The extension will continue to work, your data will remain where it is, and your account will continue as normal. If you see both names in a few places while the transition rolls out, they refer to the same product.
If you are recommending the extension to someone new, you can now just call it Tab Widgets.
What comes next
The rebrand is only one piece of ongoing product work. The focus remains the same:
- More useful widgets
- Better customization
- Faster setup for new users
- More reliable sync
- A smoother experience across the extension and web app
Thank you for using New Tab Widgets, and welcome to Tab Widgets.
Same dashboard. Shorter name.
